Energy Meteorology

Research Activities

Research in the fields of wind energy and solar energy takes place mostly in third-party-funded projects. Therefore, research activities are descibed mainly by currently running or former projects. Some projects even yielded commercial products which will also be mentioned.

Wind Energy

Current wind energy research activities of EHF are strongly focused on meteorological aspects of wind power. The aim is to describe the spatio-temporal characteristics of the wind field on different scales. This is used to assess and predict wind conditions at onshore and offshore sites.

Solar Energy

Current research in solar energy is focusing on radiation map the improvement and acceleration of methods to retrieve irradiation information from satellite images. Derived position-specific data gives valuable information about possible application of solar energy devices.

Furthermore, the actual cloud-dynamics are investigated to deduce the expected energy output and therefore help stabilizing the power grid.
